Telecoms Korea, reported that Samsung Electronics is going to be sued for trademark infringement after naming their new smartphone BlackJack. Seemingly there is a case filed in Los Angeles Federal Court by (you guessed it :-)) Research In Motion better known for their BlackBerry OS and a line-up of phones.
The apparent idiocy of the forthcoming lawsuit (in my view it should have never been accepted in court for it is obviously stupid, but we are in a different jurisdiction anyway) should not overshadow the actual screenplay.
Take my prediction: Samsung looses the first round and wins on appeal. This will keep the case afloat in the media for months and both BlackJack and BlackBerry will get tonns of free brand exposure. And the real winner is….. of course Cingular that just rolled out both of these in their smartphone lineup. Whoever wins, legal expenses are minimal compare to sales profits or either of those two. If you look from Cingular point of view - it does not sell Berries or Jacks - it sells JackBerry.
Apparently also:
Earlier, Samsung used the name Hero, the original brand name for Pantech MVNO phone launched through Helio for its products distributed in India.

Live shots of N93i have just surfaced. It is very similar to the Nokia N93, featuring the same 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and 3x optical zoom. But a body design is different with mirror effect front cover, smaller size and new button design. The Nokia 93i will also comes with a mini USB connector instead of the traditional pop-port connector. Both version works on WLAN, 3G (WCDMA 2100 MHz), EDGE and GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) networks.
